My hands can do this --- Stylish Jewelry Holder Tree Stand

It has been my daily habit of applying St.Ives facial moisturizer every morning and evening to maintain the moisture and firmness of my facial skin.  It helps in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles  hence, aging is minimized. Since the container was already running low of its content, I thought of saving it because of its durability and perfect round shape.  After taking a shower in the evening, an idea came to my mind.

Jewelries and other ornaments are precious. Even fancy jewelries are also precious to us, especially if they were given to us by a family member or close friends. They hold the memories of a generous giver in our life. They need to be stored in a secured place.  But usually we have our jewelries and ornaments worn everyday, like watch, earrings, rings, necklace, and bracelets.   We don’t just lay them around on the table because it might get misplaced or lost.  There are several instances that we need to remove them, like before we get in to the shower,  before washing our hands, and before we go to bed.  That’s why this stylish project was made to serve this purpose.  Try it and be glad you did.

STYLISH JEWELRY HOLDER TREE STAND

Materials:
(1)    empty container - St. Ives facial moisturizer
(1)    pack 20’s popsicle sticks – plain jumbo size
(1)    pack popsicle sticks – colored regular size
(10)  chips of interlocking popsicle sticks (leftovers)
(3)    rolls  copper wires (used or unused – different colors)
(1)    pack strands of floral gold wires
(1)    bouquet of artificial flowers
(1)    9 ¾ inch foam ball  (Styrofoam)
(1)    small roll garden jute string (used or unused)
(1)    Craft Easy paper (any color)
(1)    small pack Chantel Notion (little accessories)
         small aquarium pebbles
         tape measure or ruler
         rubber band
         big scissor
         pencil
         small sand paper (used)
         knife or cutter
         compass
         needle nose pliers
         handgloves
         Scotch tape
         Elmer’s glue
         Super Glue

Level of Difficulty – intermediate

Instructions:
1)  Remover the sticker.  Clean the empty container and let it dry.

2)  To determine the number of popsicle sticks to be used, put the rubber band around the   container.  Insert the colored popsicle stick (regular size) alternately with the popsicle stick (jumbo size) around inside the rubber band until you reach the end of the container, as shown in the picture below.

Numbering the Popsicle Sticks

3)  From one end of the jumbo stick, accurately measure and mark with a pencil at 3.5 inches long.  Set it aside.  From one end of the regular-sized popsicle stick, accurately measure and mark with a pencil at 3 inches long. Carefully cut each of the sticks with a big scissor.  Use them as a pattern for each respective size of the popsicle sticks to be cut.  Compare the sizes of the cut popsicle sticks.  Make adjustment, if necessary, to level its height.  (Note:  Don’t throw away the remaining chips.  Save them for other future use.)

4)  Cut a small portion of one chip to make it smaller  as shown in picture (a) below.  (Note:  These chips are cut portions of interlocking popsicle sticks I used in my other project, Tea Box Flower Bed with Bamboo Stand.  It can be used to design the jumbo popsicle stick.)  Do the same procedure for the remaining chips.  Using Super glue, attach a chip of interlocking popsicle sticks on the curved  end side of each jumbo sticks as shown in picture (b) below.  This is the first jumbo popsicle stick with attached chip.  Let it dry well. Do the same procedures for the remaining jumbo sticks.

5)  Use the sand paper to make the surface a little bit rough to easily attach the sticks on it. Put back the rubber band around the container.  Insert and arrange the pre-cut jumbo and regular colored popsicle sticks alternately around inside the rubber band as shown in Instruction # 2 also.  This will help you determine the equal spacing needed to evenly attach these sticks and hold them together temporarily. Remove the first jumbo popsicle stick and apply Super glue ¾ in line only at the center. Insert again inside the rubber band and attach it firmly on the side of the container.  Next,  remove the first regular colored popsicle stick and apply Super glue ¾ in line only at the center.  Insert again inside the rubber band and attach it firmly on the side of the container.  Do the same procedures with the remaining popsicle sticks until you reach the end.

6)  Measure and cut the garden jute string at 25 inches long.  Make this as a pattern to cut additional 2 strings.  Tie it twice tightly around the container and apply Super glue at the center of  a jumbo stick.  Level the strings around the container and lay them consistently flat on the surface.   Attach these strings on each stick with Super glue to firmly hold the sticks together also as in a rubber band.  Tie a ribbon at the center and apply Super glue again to hold it permanently.  Spread out the ribbon and cut the excess strings.  Set it aside when finish.

7)  Carefully cut the foam ball into half with a knife or cutter.  Using a compass, set the pointer at 3.5 inch mark to make a perfect circle on the craft paper.  Cut and center the foam ball on it upside down.  Fold the first two sides and then apply Elmer’s glue.  Apply Scotch tape to hold these two sides.  Fold the other side to follow the shape of the foam ball.  Apply Super glue and Scotch tape to hold this side.  Do the same procedures on the remaining side.  Apply more glue, if necessary on both sides. The outcome is shown in the picture below.  Set it aside first.

Covering the Foam Ball

8)  Divide each roll of colored copper wires into 4 parts.  You will need 12 pieces of pre-cut copper wires.  Wear a pair of hand gloves before twisting the wires to prevent your hand from having a sore. Put all the ends of the first 7 copper wires together to prepare for easy twisting.   You will just add more copper wires as the height increases.  One needle nose plier will control the copper wires together, while the other needle nose plier will twist them.  Twist them together till it measures 2 inches from the end.  Add 2 more copper wires and twist them altogether till it measures 4 inches from the end.  Add 2 more copper wires and twist them altogether till it measures 6 inches from the end.  Add the last copper wire and twist them altogether till it measures 7 inches from the end.  (Note: Don’t worry about not being not having a perfect twist. If one of the wires breaks, you still can attach it by twisting it again. If you like to add more wires along the line, you can do so. )  Separate 5 colored copper wire and then bend them down.  Don’t include them anymore in twisting.  Continue twisting the remaining wires  till it measures 2 inches from the first 5 separated wires.   Separate 4 colored copper wires and then bend them down also.  Don’t include them also in twisting.  Twist the remaining 4 wires a little bit from the second 4 separated wires and then stop.  The outcome will look like this as shown in the picture below.

Making of Copper Wire Stand

9)  Using a needle nose pliers, make a small coil at one end of the copper wire for hanging the little accessories later.  Do the same procedures for the rest of the copper wires.

Attach one strand of floral gold wire by twisting it around starting from the bottom going up.  If there is a need to add additional floral gold wire after the first one, twist them together at the end and then continue twisting around till you reach the first level.  Stop twisting and wait for the whole first level to be done first.

First Level - Get one strand of floral gold wire and bend at the center. Insert it into the in-between space of the little accessory carefully.  (Note: The instruction for attaching the little accessory will depend on what kind of accessory you like to attach.) While holding the accessory, insert one end of the wire into its hole going one direction and then insert the other end in to the same hole going to the other direction. Carefully pull the floral gold wire ends together to tighten them and twist them together lightly at the center with a needle nose plier. Insert one end of the floral gold wire into the coiled end going to one direction and then insert the other end into the same space going to the other direction.  Carefully pull them together to tighten them and  twist them together with a needle nose plier.  Let the excess floral wire hang for a while and work on the next copper wire.  The outcome is shown in the picture below. (Note: Even if the floral gold wire has an excess length, do not cut it.  You will continue only twisting it around the copper wires (main body) once they have all the accessories attached.)  Do the same procedures with the rest of the wires for this level.

Attaching the Accessory

Gather all the ends of the floral wires and carefully twist three wires together where they are nearest to each other using a needle nose pliers.  Carefully twist the remaining two wires together with the first wire that came from the bottom area.  Carefully twist them altogether where they can be reached and continue twisting up to the second level.  Stop twisting and wait for the whole second level to be done first before twisting additional gold floral wire.

Second Level – Do the same procedures as the First Level.  When all the accessories have been attached, gather all the excess floral wire ends.  Carefully twist two wires first together and then the next two wires including the wire that came from the bottom area.  Carefully twist them altogether at the center.  Leave the excess wires standing up at the top.  Stop twisting and wait for the whole third level to be done first before twisting them altogether.

Third Level -   Do the same procedures as the First Level.  When all the accessories have been attached, gather all the floral wire ends. Then carefully twist them altogether to tighten around the floral gold wires done on the Second Level.  Leave the excess wires standing up at the top.  Attach the remaining accessories on each long floral gold wire only.  Don’t cut the remaining short floral gold wires.  Arrange them in between the long floral wires.

10) Half filled the container with small pebbles.  Put the covered foam ball on a hard surface like, wood or chopping board.  Apply Super glue around the lower part of the copper wires up to the length where it should be poke into covered foam ball. Carefully poke the end of the copper stand into the center of covered foam ball deeply while holding it with your hand.  Make the ends of the copper wires even when standing by trimming them with a cutter. Put the covered foam ball on top of the pebbles and carefully push the copper stand gently down till it reaches the bottom of the container.  Dry it well and make it stand firm.

11) Pick artificial flowers and leaves from the stems and prearrange them first around the side.  Get one artificial flower and apply Elmer’s glue on its end. Insert it back deeply into the side of foam ball where it was prearranged.  Do the same procedures with the rest of the flowers and leaves. (Note: The center should not be filled up with artificial flowers anymore.  It’s better that the color the flower you choose matches the color of the covering of the foam ball to blindly show that the center area is already filled with flowers already, even though in closed-up view they are not. Too much flowers is a crowd.)   The final outcome is shown in the picture below.

Stylish Jewelry Holder Tree Stand
After I finished this project, I tried on hanging my precious jewelries on each branch of the tree stand. Though I don't have much precious jewelries on hand,  I still love to see them beautifully hanging on this stylish jewelry holder tree stand rather than keeping them on drawers.
